“The Unicorn” by Delphine Dryden
Delia and Daniel have a picture-perfect life. They like their jobs. They love their house. Everything is coming up roses . . . but in private, they’d rather have the thorns. Their recent forays into kink have brought them closer than ever, but there’s still something missing, and they can’t quite work it out.
Mara knows what she’s missing: a significant other. She tried vanilla, and it was a total bust. But when she and her last girlfriend took things out of the kink club and into the “real” world, they fizzled. Even their friendship is on the rocks now. Mara feels like a lost stray, looking for a forever home.
When the three of them meet up at the brand-new club Escape, their connection is instant. And surprising—none of them were expecting more than a few hot nights. But now they might be ready to bring their kinky threesome into the light of day and build a life together.
Publisher’s note: This title is a heavily revised re-issue of a prior story, Roses and Chains, originally released in 2011.
4 out of 5 stars
(Warning: BDSM, M/F/F, polyamory)
Sometimes you read a book that is trying very hard to make a point, or to change the way you think about the world. Those types of books can grate on the nerves and at times you just want to read something you can enjoy without having to think too much.
This is “The Unicorn”. It’s a quick read that was a delight. Oftentimes a book that focuses on BDSM tries so hard to be serious and ends up being heavy handed. “The Unicorn” opens with sex and keeps that pace throughout the book – and keeps it hot too, which is not an easy task.
So, what is a “unicorn” exactly? A unicorn is a bisexual woman who is invited to be part of a threesome by a straight male/ bisexual female couple and is equally interested in both parties. They are as rare as a unicorn. This is the story of Mara, who is feeling lost. She has plenty of experience in the kink world, but has never found what she really wants which is a loving relationship. She is introduced to Delia and Daniel who have only just begun their exploration in BDSM. Sparks fly, and they wonder if they have found their very own unicorn.
If you are looking for something quick and dirty, this is the book to reach for. Lots of fun with characters who are completely human, flawed and relatable.
I loved the cover, the black corset with red rose. The corset makes it’s own appearance in the book as well as the roses – well done.
